What is a legal guardian

A legal guardian is someone you name in your will to care for your child if you pass away. If you are married and both you and your spouse are the natural guardians of your child, the legal guardian will only assume responsibility if both of you pass away simultaneously. If you are the sole guardian of your child, the legal guardian you choose will take over upon your passing.

The role of a guardian includes assuming all parental responsibilities and rights of a minor child. They are responsible for providing for the child until they can support themselves. A guardian also makes important decisions on behalf of the child and assists with any contractual matters. If there are multiple guardians, the consent of all guardians is typically required for various matters such as applying for a passport or traveling outside of the country.
